The name of the "template" used as the background for this blog is "Harbor." I thought it was appropriate!

  1. Richard and Kherna, thanks for the great eCard!
[[[ I tried to cut/paste it in here, but need to learn now.]]]
It goes nicely into an MS Word document, but not in this little box.]

  2. Some have asked me about my 'nickname' Charlie. Here's the background. When we lived in Midvale Utah my friends called me "Charlie". So it reminds me of those glorious and Happy Days graduating from Jordan HS in the 1950s, (actually, 1956-59.)
When I lived in BYU Helaman Halls, 1st floor Chipman Hall, there were about 20 guys named 'Chuck' and so I went by 'Charlie' of course. (My preference was Charlie, not Charley.)
I was (and am) the oldest grandson of Charles (Charley) Petty and once, late in his life, he asked me to sign in as "Charlie with 'ie'" rather than as he did, FYI.
So in summary, I used to always go by 'Charles' in formal settings, but at my mid-life crisis time (minor for me) I reverted back to my childhood nickname and have been loving it ever since.
For example, at computer conferences, I am known as "Charlie Shipp" and most recently, I am "Charlie Shipp" at the Los Angeles Temple. Lynnette and I serve on Saturday mornings with young brides & grooms, and elders & sister missionaries, so dear.!.
BOTTOM LINE: You can call me 'Charles' (as Mother always will), 'Chuck' (as Lynnette used to do), or 'Charlie', it doesn't matter. (And I will call grandmother-Leila (to descendants) either 'Mother' or 'Mom' depending on the context at the moment. Love you, Mom! {signed} Charles, son.

Postscript: Next generations are calling me 'Grandpa', and that works too, ((or Uncle Charles.))
